Birdies DTLA: Fried Chicken Amora

Birdies DTLA: Fried Chicken Amora

Birdies DTLA finally opened the end of May and has quickly become a hot spot because it carries the three food groups (fried chicken, donuts and coffee), everything is fresh and made on site.

I spoke with Natalie with Spin Shoppe PR and she shared with me a little about the story of Birdies. If you didn't know already Jason Harley (aka Chef J), who has helmed notable LA eateries Parq and Pici, joins business partner Keith Bae in introducing Birdies in Downtown Los Angeles. The Birdies flagship location in DTLA, will serve as the first in a collection of restaurants, with additional locations already in the works for Los Angeles and New York. The concept is simple: Fresh, fun, all natural food, served fast. Artisanal donuts made hourly and free-range fried chicken will be the staples you can expect on a simple menu of Americana classics reimagined with a modern twist. Birdies will also feature an ever changing offering of rotating specials, a DIY Donut bar, Intelligentsia coffee creations and an in house brewed Birdies brand coffee.

The Birdie's Original chicken sandwich, served with cole slaw, buttermilk ranch mayo, Tillamonk cheddar & cured pickles, will be made from ABF free range, veggie fed, antibiotic free and air chilled chicken, to ensure the highest quality. A selection of artisanal donuts, made from King Arthur flour and locally sourced ingredients, include flavors such as the signature Triple Chocolate Donut, Lemon Thyme Pistachio, Strawberry White Chocolate, Blueberry Lemon, Cinnamon Nut Crunch, Boston Crème filled Black & White, Candied Bacon Maple and Horchata Twist with Dulce de Leche.

With that in mind my friend and fellow foodie Maria headed over to Birdie's for lunch last Thursday.

Maria and I both liked the sound of the Spicy Chicken Sandwich.

It was a good choice. I'll start from the outside and work my way in...the bread is buttery and soft the slaw and peppers are spicy but not make you sweat kinda spicy. And now for the best part the chicken...what can I say it's fabulous! Big, juicy fried chicken that is larger than the bun meaning that you will not be cheated on chicken or taste. The Spicy Fried Chicken Sammie is $10

I was feeling like going big and ordered the Chicken Wings one order offers six-pieces tossed in a spicy Asian sauce $10 to taste and share with peeps back at the office.

Honestly, I thought the wings would've been bigger, but that's just me, they were good but not great. I know it's not good to compare but I couldn't help but think of Howlin' Ray's Jumbo Wings and how meaty and tasty those babies were. Perhaps Ray's will be my wing placec and Birdie's my sandwich place. Oh and donuts...and those are sooo good.

Hello loveys Lemon Thyme Pistachio and Strawberry White Chocolate. Not super sugary and sweet but rather they taste like how they are supposed to taste...not overpowering just flavorful. They are pretty big as well so grab a couple and share with friends.

FYI you can taste any of the donuts for free. Even Sweeter.  So go grab some friends and eat!
