Tinfoil: Liquor & Grocery---Stars Hollow in LA
This was quiet an interesting experience to have this Saturday afternoon...checking out the not so secret, secret deli in the back of Tin Foil: Liquor & Grocery in Highland Park. Full disclosure walking in I felt a little embarrassed to ask the guy at the register "do you sell birthday candles"...HINT: that's the "secret" password. But I did it because I wanted a sandwich and also I wanted a bit of an adventure. The guy behind the counter smiled at me and said enjoy then buzzed me into the back door to the deli.
The secret deli was empty when I walked back their, but I was greeted by a friendly face behind the counter who asked if this was my first time. I said yes it was and I was excited to try it out. He walked through the menu (it's short) and explained that all their meats where made in house, as well as their sauces.
I kinda just stood there taking all of it in before trying to decide which sandwich to order. The menu like I said is short and quite simple; they offer 6 sandwiches. I ended up ordering the 1/4 loaf ($8) Roasted Turkey (roasted turkey, white chedder, arugula and chipotle aioli) and it was the perfect amount! I really enjoyed my sandwich.
The chipotle aioli was amazing... so creamy and smooth to contrast the thick bread (it was a lot of bread for the amount of filling tbh). The bacon also added a nice crunch.
I also order the side Kale Salad (keeping it healthy), salad was also the perfect size crunchy, fresh and hit the spot.
Overall, I wouldn't say this was the BEST sandwich I've ever had but the process to get it was a lot of fun and I would recommend it if you're in the Highland Park area looking for a quick on the go lunch spot.
You can also grab a beer, wine, liquor to go Tin Foil is also a liquor store with a soild stock of unique, artisanal wines and beers to choose from.
The Fine Print:
You pay outside so if you want you can browse the liqour store for soda, beer, chips, candy, etc to go with your sandwich. And although it seems like most customers take their sandwiches to-go they do have 2 tables inside and 2 tables outside for customers to sit at if they want to enjoy their food then and there....think Luke's from Gilmore Girls.
ALSO, Mr. Holmes Bakehouse is right around the corner if you want to pick up a pastry for dessert after! I did!!
